Dusk Over Rivelin
The creative ensemble Dusk Over Rivelin, formed in 2024, features Sheffield Poet Adrian Scott and Sheffield musician Andy Selman, accompanied by singer Wilma Scott, bass and double-bass player Mike Smith, and percussionist Paul Evans.
It all began with Adrian performing poetry and Andy playing in a band at the same gig. That was the beginning of a friendship and collaboration that produced the first two Made in Sheffield collections of Adrian’s poetry set to Andy’s music, under the banner of Scott & Selman. Wilma, Mike and Paul joined to perform the pieces live.
Dusk Over Rivelin was born when the five artists started to collaborate in writing and crafting the original creations into performance pieces
Sheffield and the industrial north are at the heart of what we write about. Reflections on life experiences and growing older in an uncertain time also shape our poetry, lyrics, and music.
We play gigs in a wide range of Sheffield venues, from small cafes such as South Street Kitchen in Park Hill and Cafe #9 in Nether Edge to the renowned Crookes Social Club and festivals such as the Nether Edge Festival. Keep an eye on the events page for upcoming gigs.
All our work is available to stream on all the major platforms.
From the Song – Dusk over Rivelin
‘Dusk over Rivelin
Smoke trails are rising
Dusk over Rivelin
Glimpses of barn owls
Dusk over Rivelin
Kingfishers are diving
Dusk over Rivelin
ponds strung like pearls
Dogs off their leads
Rain on their coats
Mills in the weeds
Sounding old notes
Walking in twilight
Beams through the trees
Tears blur our sight
The shortening of days.’
