Dreams

Dreams

I was asked to record a sixty second sermon to be broadcast today, on Radio Sheffield. It can be heard at  Sixty Second Sermon – go to 28mins and it is there. Here is the text:DSC06912

‘We are such stuff as dreams are made on and our little life is rounded with a sleep.’

So says Prospero in Shakespeare’s last play, the Tempest.

I watch myself and other people constantly gazing at their phones, checking Facebook, twitter, snapchat, whatsapp, or playing games, living in a world half-asleep, but not full of dreams.

In lent when we traditionally give things up to be more present to those around us; why not put the phone down and talk to the people you encounter today.

Ask them what they dream of doing, or of being, or where they dream of going.

Ask yourself this question – before my life is rounded with a sleep what is my dream?

In my experience the best dreams start with a small creative step.

Sign up for that ballroom dancing course, buy that novel, pick up that pen, because when you make your dreams real, other people notice it, and might just do the same.
