In 2018, together with others, I am intending to lead a trip to Assisi. In the age-old tradition of pilgrimage we invite those who feel drawn to come with us to this extraordinary place.
Francis Of Assisi was a man born in 1182 yet he offers a vision of the world that could not be more modern. I am in the process of writing a collection of poems that will form the spine of the trip. I have sought to get under the hagiography and sugary sainthood of this man and present him as a human being who managed to fulfill a huge amount of the potential we carry within us. To engage with themes from his life such as willing vulnerability, deep love for the natural world and its invitation to live in our earthliness, a trust in the deep grace hidden in the ordinary narrative of everyday life. This trip will not be an escape from your life at home but an invitation to rediscover the wonder hidden in the weave and weft of our daily life.
Each day will involve walking, listening, sharing, eating and drinking local produce, being entertained, conviviality, gazing at wonderful art in the natural world and created by human hand, all topped off with moments of glorious silence. Umbria is a magical place and the City of peace will remain with you forever.
We are seeking expressions of interest; we already have half a dozen of these, and aim to take around twelve people. We have the services of an administrator and will soon be able to publish more details towards the end of October 2016.
